Can't see that we'd be far wrong to bring back the guillotine for a reprise...

Yeah, right. If the mopes we call our countrymen can't be relied upon to vote the anti-liberty politicians out of office, there is no way I'll rely on them in a revolution to restore individual liberty.

Forget the French model, stick with the Italian approach for restoring the Republic. I’ll go with your suggestion for a modern Sulla.

Argh! I meant Sulla as an observation, not a suggestion.

I think I'm just in favor of a general shaking out of the tree. Rope, politician, tree -- some assembly required.

I assume you meant a revolution as an observation over a suggestion too. My point is that in the long run a coup and dictator with the intent of fixing things and then moving on would be preferable to the randomness of a rabble inspired revolution. I'm thinking Pinochet vs. Castro.

I getcha, but don't necessarily agree. I'd rather see bottom-up change than from the top down. Anarchy burger -- hold the government! ;)

I think my thoughts about revolution tend to a little more than observation...

It all comes down to who is leading the revolution. In the original confederation, it was a bunch of intelectuals inspired by the Locke (and Burke). In France it was the Jacobins. I worry what would lead a new revolution here, it's unlikely to be John Galt.
